Week 2 FMLY Devotions

7-Day Devotional: Overflowing with God’s Love
“The Pentecostal power, when you sum it all up, is just more of God’s love. If it does not bring more of God’s love, it is simply a counterfeit.” – William J. Seymour
Many of us have experienced or heard of the power of the Holy Spirit in miraculous ways—healing, prophecy, boldness, and spiritual gifts. These are incredible, real, and vital aspects of Spirit-led life. But William Seymour, one of the pioneers of the Pentecostal movement, challenges us with a sobering truth: power without love is not true Pentecost.
God’s Spirit is not given simply to grant ability, influence, or spectacular experiences. He comes to pour God’s love into our hearts, transform our inner lives, and equip us to love deeply and sacrificially. Spiritual gifts, signs, and experiences are valuable only when they point to the love of God and make it tangible to others.
Think of it this way: A river may be wide, strong, and forceful, but if it does not bring water that nourishes the land, it fails in its purpose. Likewise, the power of the Spirit is meant to bring the living water of God’s love to your heart, your life, and the world around you.
This week, we are going to take a journey into God’s love. Each day, we will explore a different facet of His love—its source, its experience in our hearts, its power to shape our identity, its sustaining strength, and its overflow into our lives and communities. By the end of the week, you will be able to say, with both head and heart, that the power of Pentecost is love, and that your life is a conduit of that love.
Reflection for the Week:
Ask yourself: “Where have I pursued power, gifts, or experiences without love?”
Pray: “Holy Spirit, let Your love—not my striving, not my performance—be the evidence of Your power in my life this week.”
Scripture Foundation:
Romans 5:5 NLT – “...For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.”
Day 1 – The Source of God’s Love
Scripture: 1 John 4:8 NLT – “Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.”
Reflection:
God is love—love is not just something He does, it’s who He is. Everything He does flows from His character. Today, reflect on the fact that you are loved by the One who is love itself, unconditionally and eternally.
Application:
Take a moment to thank God that His love is not earned.
Journal: How does knowing God is love change the way you see yourself today?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You that You are love. Help me rest in the reality that I am deeply and completely loved by You, not because of what I do, but because of who You are.
Day 2 – Love Poured into Our Hearts
Scripture: Romans 5:5 NLT – “…God has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.”
Reflection:
God’s love isn’t just knowledge; it’s an experience, poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Today, invite the Spirit to make God’s love tangible in your soul.
Application:
Close your eyes and breathe, asking the Holy Spirit to fill your heart with God’s love.
Identify one area in your life that feels dry or empty and visualize God’s love flooding it.
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, pour God’s love into every corner of my heart. Let me feel it deeply and allow it to overflow into every area of my life.
Day 3 – Love Defines Your Identity
Scripture: Romans 8:16 NLT – “For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.”
Reflection:
Your identity is rooted in God’s love, not in achievements, mistakes, or approval from others. Today, remember that you are fully known and fully loved.
Application:
Write down “I am God’s beloved” somewhere you can see it all day.
Reflect: Where have you been defining yourself by performance instead of God’s love?
Prayer:
Father, thank You that my identity is secure in Your love. Help me live from this truth rather than striving for approval or achievement.
Day 4 – Love Sustains You
Scripture: 1 John 4:19 NLT – “We love each other because he loved us first.”
Reflection:
God’s love is the source of your strength and endurance. When life feels heavy, His love is what sustains you. Today, let love refresh and energize you.
Application:
Memorize this truth: “I can love and persevere because God first loved me.”
Look for one practical way to show love today that you might otherwise avoid.
Prayer:
Lord, let Your love sustain me today. Fill me so I can love others not out of obligation, but from the overflow of Your love.
Day 5 – Love Empowers Spirit-Filled Living
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:1–3 NLT – “If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.”
Reflection:
Spiritual power without love is empty. True Pentecostal power—the kind that transforms lives—is always rooted in love.
Application:
Reflect: Where might you have pursued gifts, knowledge, or success without love?
Ask God to align all your spiritual energy with love.
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, let every gift, word, or act of service flow from love, so that my life reflects God’s heart rather than empty effort.
Day 6 – Love is Meant to Overflow
Scripture: John 13:34–35 NLT – “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Reflection:
God’s love is not meant to be hoarded. It flows from you to others, creating life, community, and witness.
Application:
Look for someone today who needs a tangible demonstration of love—words of encouragement, a helping hand, or forgiveness.
Consider how your life could be a conduit of God’s love this week.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to pour out the love You’ve poured into me. Let it overflow into my family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers.
Day 7 – Love is the Evidence of God’s Spirit
Scripture: 1 John 4:12 NLT – “No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is brought to full expression in us.”
Reflection:
William J. Seymour said: “The Pentecostal power, when you sum it all up, is just more of God’s love. If it does not bring more of God’s love, it is simply a counterfeit.”
True Spirit-filled life is measured by love that is felt, experienced, and shared.
Application:
Reflect on this week: How have you experienced God’s love and passed it on?
Commit to one intentional act of love tomorrow that reflects God’s Spirit.
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, let Your love be the mark of my life. Fill me, transform me, and let the world see God through the overflow of Your love in me.
